BIG TRUCKS: ON & OFF THE HIGHWAY: The 244 images come from photos, slides and brochures from the mid-1970’s in the case of highway trucks and from the early 1980’s for the off-highway vehicles. Two well-known truck builders,. Kenworth & Peterbilt, are still around, all three U.S. automakers have exited the large truck market and two builders, Brockway and Marmon, are gone. An aspect of the 1970’s era were the cab-over-engine trucks that went away with the easing of truck-trailer length restrictions, but are in the book. In the mining area, the trucks of the early 1980’s were almost half the capacity of contemporary trucks. The presentation is like looking through a book on a computer.
