MINNEAPOLIS & ST. LOUIS DIESEL POWER: The M&StL was an early adopter of the internal-combustion engine, having acquired gas-electric passenger cars in 1929-31. In the late 1930s, it purchased EMC, Alco and Baldwin switchers. World War II prevented the M&StL from further dieselizing, but as the war neared its end, it bought EMD FTs and Alco RS-1s. The RS-1s were unique in that they were painted in ten different schemes. Dieselized in 1951, it added EMD SD-7s for helpers in Peoria and GP-9s for road service in the mid-1950s, along with Budd RDC-4s.

The 91 images come from slides, negatives and prints. The time period ranges from the 1920s to the 1950s. The presentation is like looking through a book on a computer.
